La Noche en Blanco - Malaga's White Night

Arts & Culture

Around the world in one night of culture and performances

Now in its twelth edition, the Malaga Noche en Blanco, 'the white night', offers the visitor free access to many cultural institutions, as well as a host of activities, events, concerts and happenings around the town, many situated in the city's fabulous historic monuments. This years event takes place from 7pm until 1am. The concept originally came from Paris where the city authorities created a nightlong event of access to public buildings and cultural institutions, and caught on quickly around other European cities. Malaga's first one was  in 2008, and this years theme was the result of a public vote on a Facebook platform. The theme selected is 'around the world in one night'. Hence the fetching poster that riffs on the familiar air baggage tag we are all so familiar with.

Previous editions featured all sorts of concerts of all sorts of music in many of the churches, halls and squares around the town. Night-time guided excursions have graced the Alcazaba, the Botanical Gardens, various parks, gardens, cemetaries, and public buildings and historical monuments. There are projections and street animations, numerous free exhibitions, and free entry to everything.

The best way to find out what's going down is to visit the information stand on Calle Larios, or download the App. The App is called LNEB2018 and it should be updated shortly before the 2019 event with all the current information. Last year it was only updated the night before, so download and keep an eye on when the information appears.

The streets will be buzzing with people, spectacle and sound, so come down just for a stroll around or some serious culture vulturing. There will be more than you can possibly take in in one night.
